Arrived rather slowly, taking several days to traverse 150 miles. Worked just fine. Remember to check both ends each time. That's how you detect improper pairings.

Great product to use in the installation of UTP cable. Used it to install structured media case for internet Cat6, telephone Cat3 and cable RJ59 around the whole house. Works with Cat6 & RJ11 modulars. Handy device to check pin continuity. Connect it to ends of jacks. Device will tell you if the 8 wires are connected correctly standard B or A. Since it is a basic device it will not tell you the length of the cable run. To keep cable to the correct length measure off or use another cable no longer than 100 feet. Uses 9 volt battery not included.

This particular unit is a must have any IT personnel. It works great, and includes a nice case for storage. I can't justify spending more money for this type of tester, as there really isn't much to these units.

The company I work for is getting new VOIP phones in the near future, and as part of this project I needed to tone our ethernet lines. I read a few reviews, and ended up buying this tester along with the Trendnet TC-TP1 Probe. It worked beautifully for about twenty minutes, but then died on me. Even though there is only two-and-a-half volts passing down cat5 cable, apparently that is enough to fry it. I have only myself to blame though, as it states all over the tester that it is "not for live circuits". I had assumed that this message was merely a safety warning, and not something I needed really to concern myself with. Newbie mistake.
I will be buying another one, and this one I will test only on dead lines. And I predict it will work great for me. So a word of warning to other newbs, really do only use it on dead lines!

If you are walking into a cabling cluster-mess you will need this. Found cabling issues that others worked around. Customer thought I was a trouble-shooting genius. I did not tell them that its all in the tools and knowing how and when to use them. Be prepared and git yourself one.
