 "Big ol' cable" 2009-11-02
By JW (San Diego, CA)
I can't remember the last time I saw a VGA cable as thick as this one; this is a big ol' sucker. It's built solid and tough, complete with ferrites on each end and screw-down connectors (and I would highly recommend that you screw it onto to your HDTV's connector due to its weight).

Some reviewers said the audio cable didn't reach the output port on their laptops. They must have humongous laptops; I have a 15.4" Toshiba Satellite, and there is no problem connecting both the VGA and audio output ports (the VGA output is located on the left side toward the rear, and the audio output is located just slightly right of center in the front), and it would easily connect if the two ports were on opposite corners.

Another reviewer said that if your laptop didn't have a VGA port with screw-down capability, the cable was too heavy and would disconnect itself. My laptop does not have screw-down ability, but I have not had any problem with the cable disconnecting.

This is a very high-quality cable at a very reasonable price, and 15ft is plenty long enough for most applications (easily extends from the TV to the bed or sofa).

"Perfect for connecting your laptop to a TV" 2009-10-26
By Robert S. Tobias (Arlington, VA USA)
I use this to connect my laptop to my TV for when I want to catch up on TV shows and it works perfectly. The cable is bulky, like others have said. I take that as a good thing because it at least implies decent wiring. Also, there really aren't any screws to hold the connectors in place. However, the cables stay in place at both ends and besides, I never tighten them down anyway.

This cable is a good value for connecting a laptop to a TV or anything else where you need to run SVGA and audio 15'.

 "Exactly what I needed!" 2009-10-15
By M. Klise (Grants Pass, OR)
I bought this to hook my HDTV to my computer to watch Netflix movies streamed to my TV. It took me less than five minutes to hook up, and the picture and sound quality were much better than I expected. It was like watching a DVD on my TV. Unlike many of the reviewers, I didn't have problems with diminished picture quality on my computer.

"Great concept... but not the performance I'd hoped." 2009-10-05
By M. Sanges (Gloversville, NY United States)
I bought this cable for use with my Acer netbook; to use at home with my Samsung 720p 36" LCD television, and to add to my mounting armada of netbook accessories I end up traveling with.

The vga plug works as to be expected, and as many others have noted, the end is quite big and blocky and probably could've been complimented with more of a jut between the metal of the cable end and the plastic little hub it's connected to, but regardless, it hooks-up just fine and performs well enough. My complaint is more than probably due just by circumstance in that the 3.5mm audio cable doesn't *quite* reach from the left side of my (itty-bitty) netbook to the right side where the headphone/audio out jack lies; my loss. Enterprising netbook (and laptop?) owners, you have been warned!

After swallowing my self-pity at realizing this is only going to do 70% of the job I had intended it for, my girlfriend and I tried the cable setup with her slim-model desktop PC and, as you can imagine, the cables fit just fine with a normal PC setup, the audio however was rather sub-par. We had to crank our audio receiver way up there to hear the flat sound (was that static in there too?) of the Bones episode we streamed from Hulu thanks to this little doodad.

All in all, a grade of A for ingenuity, but a C+ in execution.

"Works Great for Laptop to 720p LCDHDTV" 2009-08-29
By R. Williams (Annapolis, MD USA)
I have used this cable to connect my laptop to 22" and 32" 720p LCD HDTV's and it works great on both. There is no ghosting (like another cable I tried)and the long audio wire easily reaches the audio out jack on my laptop. Set your laptop to "output to monitor" and enjoy the big screen!

"The perfect choice: Price & Quality" 2009-11-10
By Steve Portillo (El Salvador, C.A.)

If you want to connect your laptop to your TV using VGA you cannot go wrong with this cable.

Definitelly the selling point of this cable is its lenght, but the stereo cable included is a big plus for laptop usage.

The cable itself is sturdy, but not too bulky once it is extended.

BTW, the VGA connector on my laptop doesnt have screws, yet this cable fits and tights perfectly.

 "Works. Cost effective." 2009-08-25
By Jonathan D. Bailey (Milwaukee, WI USA)
The clarity is just what you'd expect, great. Of our four computers, none does true HD, so having a SVGA is just fine, though I'd be willing to make a fair sized wager that having a SVGA cable has no impact on HD output. One of my computers (with a nvidia card) correctly identified the TV and the TV's native resolution and outputed accordingly.

If you're comparing this to a HDMI cable, the only two issues with the cable have to do with the equipment capabilities on either end. Mainly, the computer I use with the TV doesn't have the correct resolution where a HDMI cable is going to output the correct 1080. Secondly, the TV will only take a stereo input with the PC input thus won't pass surround sound from the TV to the receiver. (this is a big issue, if directly connected from PC to receiver all of the sound will be off by the time it takes the TV to properly render the video image. Drives me nuts.)

Pros:

Not HDMI.

Ridiculously cost effective.

Every 'not mac' I've seen has a SVGA out.

Cons:

None with the cable.

I bought this to hook my HDTV up to a computer across the room to be able to stream internet source video to the TV. The picture quality is HD with my video card. I use the built in speakers on my tv, so the audio is just fine for my needs. It would be nice if the audio had a pass through jack on one end of the cable, but for the price, I can't complain.

I've had enough frustration that I needed a new monitor ASAP.

I came across this HP 2009M 20-Inch HD LCD Monitor and decided to buy it after reading couple of reviews.

OMFG, what a difference! It's crystal clear with max resolution of 1600x900. It's a work of art! Beauty! Elegance!

I have HP desktop that never failed me and im looking forward long years with this monitor!

 "Great Monitor but......." 2009-11-15
By S. Karnes
I've had the monitor for a week now it provides excellent colors. Just got a blu ray DVD player and wow blew me away. The one problem I've noticed with mine is when watching letterbox movies in full screen view (black bars on top and bottom) you can see a small amount of light bleeding through along the top where the top of the screen butts against the black border of the LCD which is a distraction for me and don't know if common with HP or LCD monitors in general. Otherwise the unit seems well built but the stand is very short so I have a phone book under it and the monitor came with the DVI cable which is nice. Customer support is off shore so hopefully HP will consider bringing these jobs home but othewise a very good purchase except for the problem noted above.

Mini-DVI to HDMI (female) Adapter Cable for Apple Mac

Buy Cheap Mini-DVI to HDMI (female) Adapter Cable for Apple Mac

Use this cable adapter to connect your Mac with a Mini-DVI video output port to an external monitor, TV, projector or other display device with HDMI input. Plug the Mini-DVI end into your Mac, and connect the HDMI end to an HDMI (male to male) cable, then plug the cable into your HDMI input input jack. Compatible models:12-inch PowerBook G4, Intel-based iMac, the MacBook Intel-based laptop, the Intel-based Xserve, and the 2009 Mac Mini.

Helpful Notes: This device is intended to function more as an adapter than as a cable, meaning its short length WILL NOT reach from your Mac to the monitor. It will need to be used with an HDMI cable (sold separately).

In addition, this adapter works only with Mini-DVI ports, not with Micro-DVI or Mini Display Ports. To quickly check what port you have: this adapter has a U-shaped connector that will match the U-shape found on Mini-DVI ports.

Highest resolution supported: 1920x1200 @60Hz.

Does exactly what it should...got freaked out at first cause when I connected it to my MacBook all that appeared on the TV screen was the wallpaper (no matter what I actually had on the computer screen). This I found out was easily fixed under the System preferences ->Displays...just find the checkbox that says "mirror display" or "mirror screen" or something like that. So now it works great and I can watch any streaming video or tv shows etc. from my laptop on my 42" TV! Just remember there is no sound with this cable...that's a separate audio cable.

 "Clarity For The Confused!" 2009-10-05
By S. Hochstetler
Ok, there seems to be some confusion as to what this product will do over the mini-dvi to VGA adapter that Apple sells, so I hope I can shed some light on the matter. The mini-dvi to VGA allows you to display your computer monitor on your television screen with resolutions that your COMPUTER MONITOR is capable of. This is very limiting as most TVs will not support the higher resolutions of the monitor, leaving you with little better than 800x600. In comes the mini-dvi to HDMI adapter, which allows you to display your computer monitor on your television, but the real magic is in the resolutions you are now given. The resolutions are HDTV compatible, allowing for HD viewing( I view mine in 720p). If you're looking for a quick answer, this product is much better than any mini-dvi to VGA that is out, simply for the fact that your resolution will be higher on the TV, resulting in a clearer picture and much more readable text.

The Garmin products are very good but their business plan is to squeeze more money out of us for the maps and charts. The base map that comes loaded is ridiculous - they must have made it bad on purpose. The result is a nagging feeling that we are being taken advantage of. Get with it Garmin - you could be building loyalty in customers but you are creating ill will.

After researching several handheld GPS devices - we bought the Garmin eTrex Venture. We've only used it so far for geocaching and it's worked extremely well - can get us to within a few feet. It's sometimes slow to pick up the satellites when it first turns on - otherwise, no problems. You're supposed to be able to download geocache coordinates from the geocache website to Garmin GPS units - we haven't tried this yet.

"Garmin eTrex GPS used for geocacheing" 2009-11-04
By J. Loose (Detroit, MI)
I finally used this for the first time to find a geocache. Turns out, I chose one of the hardest ones to find (a micro multi-cache) and didn't make it past the 1st location but at least I was able to follow it quite easily. Inside, I was concerned about the screen contrast and brightness but outside in the light, I was able to see the screen ok without it being lighted. I am a bit concerned about the battery life. Time will tell. I bought 4 NiMH rechargeable batteries to use with it. From time to time I take it out of the drawer and turn it on. It didn't seem like the batteries lasted too long before it told me battery low. I haven't used it enough to tell how long the true battery life is but I want to take it hunting to find the blind and the car. It wouldn't be to cool if the batteries gave out. You usually walk to and from the blind in the dark so the lighted display will be used a lot. Accuracy finding the first geocache was to 14'.

"They're good FOR WHAT THEY ARE." 2009-11-08
By M. A. Lane (Seattle, WA USA)
I got these headphones about a year and a half ago. Two things to note right off the bat:

1. A year an a half ago I knew VERY LITTLE about the technical side of audio.

2. It's stupid of Sony to call these "Studio Headphones" or even "Monitor Series" headphones.

FIRST OFF, know that these are not "studio quality" by any means, and will be horrible for use in any home or project studio, even if you're just starting out. Go spend $100 on some AKG or Sennheiser phones. Spend more if you can afford it. It's an important investment. These don't provide the audio quality necessary for mixing, or the isolation necessary for tracking in the studio. I'm surprised that the specs say 18 Hz to 22 KHz. Those frequencies are DRASTICALLY and unusably attenuated, if even present at all. If you retain one sentence from this review, it should be this one: These are NOT studio headphones.

THAT ASIDE, these are acceptable throw-around, day-in day-out casual commuting headphones. Before I purchased my Yamaha HS series monitors (not the world's best monitors, but they work for me) and AKG K271 MKII headphones, I thought these Sony headphones sounded really really good. Now that I have good headphones to compare them to, they're a horrible muddy mess with a limited frequency response... but I don't really care when I'm walking along a busy, LOUD street, listening to my iPod, or when I want to pack headphones that I'm not worried about breaking and paying to replace. I'm surprised people say they break theirs all the time. They're not bullet proof... but... what the hell do you do to your headphones...? Mine have held up fine. I do prefer on ear headphones for casual listening, as they're not as huge as over ear models, and because I absolutely hate ear buds. The comfort of these are pretty decent, IMO. Could be better, but they're 20 dollar headphones.

IF THIS REVIEW IS TOO LONG, SKIP TO THIS PART.

To sum it all up, for $20 headphones these can't be beat. They're comfy enough, durable enough, small enough, and decent enough sounding for the average consumer... ESPECIALLY the consumer that only wants to pay $20 for something as important as headphones.

 "They'er "aight"." 2009-10-26
By J. Moore (San Leandro, CA)
I've owned this series of headphone for some odd reason, because they're not all that good, more than once. It's a quick fix. They're cheep, and do the job. But that's all they do.

The highs aren't high. The bass is virtually non-existent. It's only so-so high point is the mid range, which isn't all that important compared to the other two items.

The construction, as you'd expect by the price is very.. very cheep. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony started throwing these in cereal boxes for the free toy in a few years.

I have to wear glasses, and during long listening sessions (over an hour) my ears began to hurt since these are an "on the ear" headphone. I wouldn't suggest these to anyone, regardless of price, if they wear glasses on a regular basis.

I won't be buying another set. Ever.

"Nice item to review your electrical use" 2009-11-22
By Theron Wierenga (Muskegon, MI)
Overall, I was quite pleased with this item. Simple to use, just plug in the your electrical device and push the watt button and you can see how many watts it's consuming. I used it to see just what my TVs and computers were using when I turned them off. I find my cable box uses as much energy turned off as it does turned on!

While it does plug right into a wall socket, I found it more convenient to put it on a short extension cord.

 "Useful, but" 2009-11-16
By Stephen Fisher (San Jose)
Does what it says it will and will help us understand our power usage. However, with the display set flat in the surface, it is hard to read when in use. Think that most wall plugs are down low, or at best, at counter level. In each case the viewer must bend to align their view with the display. A display tilted upward would be an improvement.

 "P3 International P4400 Kill A Watt Monitor" 2009-11-10
By Zzzzz (Cali)
This really does work, but the problem is that there is no easy way to put this in a plug if the plug is behind something. Obviously houses have things in them, so that is a little disappointing, but this does work well. I think that it helps in understanding which appliances and electronics are sucking out the most energy, but the problem is if you have a ton of surge protectors, then unplugging and plugging all your things is a hassle. I think there should be a surge protector Kill A Watt which and determine how much energy is being used by each socket.

"Neat Device - Could be better" 2009-11-05
By Ted Cashin (Avondale Estates, GA USA)
This is a pretty neat device that measures how many watts a device is using and keeps a total of kilowatt hours used over time (critical for things that use power in bursts like a refrigerator). I used it to measure how much power my HDTV receiver was using while it was turned off (15 watts!) and calculated that by using a remote control surge protector and unplugging the HD receiver when not in use, I can pay for the surge protector in 3 years. I was happy to learn that the standby power of my DVD player and home theater receiver were minimal. My old VCR uses a couple of watts just sitting there. I figured out that it costs me 2 cents to brew one cup of coffee.

So this is a great thing that will keep you entertained for a couple of days and give you some good information. Then you should lend it out to everyone you know! Let everyone audit their own energy use. Every library or fire station should have these to lend out to people. Okay, off my soapbox now.

The device itself needs some improvements. I know this is the low-end model and I appreciate that it is fairly inexpensive. But there is no reason in the world for this thing to block both plugs in a standard outlet. Yes, you can get an extension cord, but the design should be better. I was a little annoyed that it has three prongs, but I admit they probably don't have a choice since some devices that you plug in to it will need a ground. Second, just plugged in to the wall, the Kill a Watt reads 3 watts. While that is great to know, it totally messes up all the readings. My VCR on standby reads 5, but 3 of that is the Kill a Watt. Why do I want to know that? It should not be counting itself and I imagine that it also includes its own power usage in the kilowatt-hour running total. Memory and backlighting would be fine additions, but I don't really want to pay extra for them.

So I think it can be useful for tracking down energy vampires (my laptop uses one sixth as much power as my desktop computer; I don't think I'll buy another desktop). It would be best if you can find somebody and borrow this from them, but if not this is a good purchase.

"basic unit ok but requires some calculations" 2009-11-04

I bought the basic unit because I work in the energy field and wanted to know how the base unit works. It is fine, seemingly accurate and easy to connect. But it does require a bit of calculation to figure out the total usage. Plus if you plug it into the wall you then have to bend down there to read the results. If you unplug it you get a reset and all results are lost. Be a sport and upgrade to the one that does the math for you, the EZ model. I have not tried it yet but the principle seems right. Or go big time and get the power strip, then you can put it where you can read it.
